The condition known medically as enuresis is more commonly known as wetting the bed. The most typical form of elimination disorder is nocturnal enuresis, more commonly known as wetting the bed at night. Diurnal enuresis is the medical term for daytime wetting. Some kids have one or the other, while others have both at the same time.
This behaviour could have a purpose, or it could just be random. It is not possible to make a diagnosis of the condition until the child is at least 5 years old. Enuresis that is voluntarily engaged in, also known as intentional enuresis, has been linked to a variety of other mental conditions, such as behavioural disorders and emotional disorders like anxiety. It also seems to run in families, which suggests that a tendency for the disorder may be inherited (passed on from parent to child, particularly on the father's side of the family). Enuresis is also known as familial nocturia. Additionally, toilet training that was rushed or begun when the child was too young may be a factor in the development of the disorder, despite the fact that there is insufficient research to draw definitive conclusions about the relationship between the process of toilet training and the onset of enuresis. Children who have enuresis are frequently described as being heavy sleepers who fail to awaken at the time their bladders become full or when they have the urge to void their urinary tracts.
Reduce your fluid intake in the evening. There is no need to set limits on the number of liquids that your child consumes in a day because it is essential that they get enough fluids. However, if you encourage people to drink liquids in the morning and early afternoon, this may help reduce feelings of thirst later in the day. However, if your child participates in evening sports practice or games, you should not restrict the number of fluids that they consume in the evening.
Steer clear of foods and beverages that contain caffeine. At any time of the day or night, children should avoid drinking beverages that contain caffeine. Because caffeine has the potential to stimulate the bladder, consuming it in the evening is strongly discouraged.
Encourage urinating twice before going to bed. Urinating twice before going to bed means first going to the bathroom when you first get into bed and then again right before you go to sleep. Reassure your child that getting up to use the restroom in the middle of the night is not only acceptable but encouraged. Make sure your child can easily find their way to the bathroom and other parts of the house by providing him or her with small night lights.
It is important to encourage regular use of the toilet throughout the day. During the day and evening, you should recommend to your child that they urinate approximately every two hours, or at the very least, as frequently as necessary to prevent a sense of urgency.
Avoid getting rashes. Every morning, you should assist your child in rinsing his or her genital area and bottom in order to prevent a rash that can be caused by wet underwear. In addition, it could be beneficial to apply a protective moisture barrier cream or ointment to the affected area before going to bed. Consult with your child's paediatrician for product suggestions.
